More About Dental Implants

Dental implants are probably one of the most successful oral surgeries. They have a 95% success rate, or more, which makes them a smart solution if you've lost one or multiple teeth.

A dental implant is comprised of three separate parts:

  • A biocompatible titanium post that replaces missing tooth roots and reinforces the jawbone to prevent bone deterioration.
  • An abutment/screw that fastens the titanium post to a restorative dental appliance.
  • A restorative dental appliance, like a bridge or crown, is the only visible part of the whole dental implant since it is placed above the gumline.

Dr. Mendelson is the only dentist that performs the procedure at his Owings Mills office because of his experience. He is certified by New York University for his studies in Oral Implantology, has been featured in journals, and is part of the American Board of Implantology.

How do people lose their teeth?

While poor oral care is a big reason, people may lose a tooth because of an accident or while playing a sport. So poor oral care isn't the only reason.

Who is a good candidate?

This ultimately comes down to what your dentist says after your oral examination, but generally speaking, a good candidate has good habits. If you brush and floss daily that probably means you will take good care of your implants. Good candidates also have a strong immune system, don't smoke, and have a healthy amount of bone density.
